Russ we hardly knew you

Dave Peebles Lyons, Ohio!

>Hello to all my fellow woodturners,

I just saw that Russ has decided to pursue other things in the wood turning world.

I felt the need to profess my deep admiration for all that Russ has givin us over the last couple of years. His knowledge is almost unmatched in the area of woodturning. Even when I disagreed with him when he stated an opinion, I soon learned that if I tried his method, he was always right.

I am happy to hear that you will still be hanging around to give the same great advice you always have, but I for one will miss your even handed moderating.

I know that Keith will do a great job, but he has some big shoes to fill.

Thanks for everything Russ,

Best wishes,

Dave

>Beautifully said, David.

May I add that prior to Russ, WC often felt like a coffee-bar for mainly East Coast Turners--very chatty, almost to the level of "I'm on my way to see you; will be there in 15 minutes". While it certainly served a purpose, it was transformed under Russ' stewardship to an informative, thoughtful repository of knowledge. Many is the time that I turn to the archives to find a nugget of advice to solves a problem, and Russ' name is there in the vast majority of such postings.

I know that it has occasionally been a difficult, perhaps frustrating endeavour, but, IMOWISNU, you handled the problems of herding a bunch of cats with diplomacy, tact, and, when necessary, a swift kick in the pants! Your reputation attracted other experienced turners, creating a virtuous cycle of growth and quality information.

It is hard to believe, but I feel that, despite the fact that we have never met, I know you well through your writing.

Thank you for all your work in growing this site, in sharing your vast knowledge without hesitation, and for your humor.

You will be missed.

Dinyar

>I have to agree with all that has been said in many posts regarding this transition. I have learned so much from this forum especially with Russ and his encyclopedic knowledge and experience. Fortunately we will still have his brain to pick and wit to chuckle with. I have had the great fortune to meet Russ and believe me it was a real pleasure. I also know Keith and am sure he will do a fine job. All the best to both gentlemen. By the way, I've seen Russ's shoes-they're not THAT big. ;))

Thanks for everything Russ and Keith,

Don
