WTB: "Steel" Jet Mini Lathe Knockout Bar

Larry in Lima

>My knockout bar, being the soft metal that it is, has gotten more than a little beat. I know I can order another one from Jet / WMH, but anyone know if someone sells or makes an "aftermarket" one that maybe has a one piece handle etc.? The thread on mine is not too good, plastic round knob handle fits even worse....

It'd be nice to just have a one piece deal, or even a 2-piece that was more "precision made".

I guess I could make one out of wood and see how long it lasts. Thanks for any information, Larry

>I am not sure I would want a knockout bar made from very hard material.

Instead of the bar getting dinged, it will be your spindle and other parts that will get dinged.

The knockout bar is a lot easier and cheaper to replace than other parts of the lathe.

Just my opinion, OK ?

>A 12" drill bit extension works very well. You can turn your own handle.

>That Tommybar looks perfect.... Thanks guys.

I understand about the soft metal, but this metal on my bar is a little ridiculous, not to mention the handle. Anyway, that tommybar will fill the bill. Larry

>If you can braze or if you need to have it done here is a great rod. If you have a drill, tap and a threader you can also do it this way.

Cut off the top portion of an old trailer ball and braze to a 3/8 rod. This has a great weight and does not require a lot of pounding even on a tight taper.

Good turning and be safe
