>Im looking at getting a 3520A asap!

got a few Questions for ya!

what accessories did you get to go with your lathe?

Osolnik Machinery has a package deal the 3520A lathe with standard stuff that comes on it, RH bowl tool rest,Remote on/off switch,7" tool rest,4" face plate, 6"face plate, outboard turning stand for $3,031

I was thinking of getting this deal and was wondering how the outboard turning stand was. is it made good and worth getting ( I weld and could actualy make my own that would be as heavy or heavier) and the on/off switch would it be worth getting it?

those are the 2 factors in getting the package deal I can get the other stuff cheaper somewhere else

or should I get the basic lathe and buy accessories such as faceplates and bowl tool rests somewhere else?

>I chose the basic setup. Best price was at Southern Tool. I figured the swing was bigger than any wood I have so didn't really need to worry about the outboard turning for awhile. The rest the stuff you can easily pick up as needed. But I'm a skin flint and couldn't see spending over $500 for stuff I may never use. I did buy the 4" tool rest because I often used that on my Delta. Like you, I could build an outboard toolrest for alot less money. I also figured $500 will buy alot of tools and other stuff that I REALLY wanted.

>I just got the basic lathe 10 months ago for $2250 and the 18" bed extension for $150 and a hollow spindle extender (nice to have) for $54 with free shipping on all. Came with spur center, darn nice live center, tool rest and face plate. The remote switch would be nice to have... may get it someday.

>The basic package plus the remote on/off switch has worked out very well for me. The remote switch is nice when you are doing large bowls or hollow forms. My recommendation is to save your money and make your own tool rests. The stock rests are ok, but if you can weld, you can certainly make something much better. Same goes for the outboard turning rest. The more you can customize these items, the happier you will be.

Jerry mentioned the 18" bed extension. I experimented with one made out of MDF and found this works really well for holding my secondary tool rest for larger hollow forms. It is light enough that I can easily remove it when I do not need it. I would definitely NEVER recommend using this with your tailstock, just your secondary rest.

Long story short, get the basic package and make what you can.

I bought the lathe, bed extension and remote release. Got it all from www.toolnut.com I have mixed emotions on the remote switch. I don't use it much. It's nice when I do but I tend to forget that I'm using it and walk over the main switch anyway. You have to remember to leave the main switch on. It doesn't work like 2 light switches in a room where you can have either one on or off.

I do like the bed extension but you must have a need for a lathe that long. On the plus side I put it on the motor side so the it's basically out of the way tucked under the motor when I don't need it which is 90 percent of the time.

I would build the outboard tool rest if you need it. It's not something you would use very often so keep that money and use it for new tools or grinder.

>I too ordered the 18"bed extention. It's not a light tail stock so it was worth it just to slide it way out of the way,and you have a 52"bed if you need it.I got mine from Osalink for 200 and change with free shipping.Good luck!!!

>Thank you all

Thats what I was thinking I will just get the lathe and The On/off switch and maybe the 2" spendle extension. Thinking about getting a 4" or a 6" face plate for making a homemade compression chuck for finishing off the bottom of bowls where Is the best place to buy them?

>Jim- you don't need to buy"no stinkin' faceplate" for a jam chuck-turn a variety of sizes out of hardwood with a #2 Morse taper on the end!

>Hi Jerry,

I am also considering the 3520a and was wondering where you found that price? The best price that I have seen so far was $2341 from Gulfport Industrial Supply.

Thanks,

Doug
