turning web sites

>I just spent some time reading Darrell Feltmate's web site. Tons of good information. I picked up on it from a recent post here.

What are some other useful turner's websites? I have already bookmarked AAW and WOW.

>Try the "Articles" for starters, I have a bunch of woodturning articles in "Russ's Corner", and there is always Dresdner's articles. All are available from the menu to the left of the screen or from the main page.

Thanks, Ruth....

I book marked the page. Thanks.

Not to dismiss all the wonderful examples of work. Most inspiring, but first things first.

Also, beyond "Woodturning Design", any other magazines a newbie should check out?

>Carol, if you can afford it, I would suggest you get back issues of the AAW mag. I periodically go through them and there are always articles on things I am interested in at the time, but forgot they were there.

I get the UK 'Woodturning'...go on amazon.com for your subscription,as I recall it is way cheaper than anywhere. Don't mistake it with the other UK mag with a similar name. I love it...but then again, I am from the UK so I may be biased!

When I started turning I bought, at great expense, three brand named knives.....I have increased this collection, but only after I was turning and started to know what tools were useful for what, and what 'shapes' I wanted to work with. I buy tools in HHS and grind them for what I want. As an example, we had the annual woodshow this weekend in Ontario CA. (Pretty dismal compared to the ones I was regularly attending in Canada by the way.) Anyway, One vendor was selling cheap knives for $5...with wood handle. The point is, they were all HSS and will be reground for what I want to play with.

My big problem is in making jigs. some people have these great ideas and 'simple' way to make an inexpensive jig......but for some reason my brain never sees the making of them simple........if only someone would make them in a batch and sell them on-line!

Anyway, when it comes to jumping in to turning for all you are worth, unless you have a significant disposable income I would say...'walk a bit more and find the routes you like, then you can do the marathon!'

Sorry if I am sharing the obvious, I'm not sure how long you have been turning.

At least, that is what I read on the other mag's website...

>Carol,

Dave has one of the best "links" page, at least I enjoy and learn a little from them all.

You started with one of the best with Darrell Feltmate's site.

Definitely read all of Russ' Corner and check out his website.

Possibly a good one on Dave's links page, for your interests might be Brian Clifford's. He has extensive tutorial pages.

There is another one who has a lot of jigs, I'll have to re-find him though. I believe he's in France.

Happy turning.
