>Right off the Woodcraft web site, here's the description:

"Mini Jumbo Jaws are designed to re-chuck bowls and plates for complete bottom finishing. The 8 rubber grippers cushion and hold your work piece (up to 9-7/8" dia.) during light finish turning and sanding operations."

Price listed is $84.99. I have a set and they work as described although lots of inventive turners make their own.

>Take a look at the Oneway site directly - http:\\www.oneway.on.ca. Looks like they offer Mini Jumbo, Jumbo and Mega Jumbo jaws that fit the Talon chuck (listed under Chuck Accessories). Order direct from Oneway, or you can probably find these jaws at Woodturner's Catalog or Packard Woodworks...

Why? *LINK*

Garrett in Victoria

>Why make - or buy - Cole Jaws when, for next to nothing and a bit of time you can make a self-contained scrolling chuck to do the same job easier and better. I calculate that there are exactly 40 steps required each time you decide to use Cole Jaws: 8 screws x 2 to remove and replace the chuck's jaws, 8 screws x 2 to fit and remove the Cole Jaws, and 8 screws to re-set the buttons.

A quick addendum to the article at the link, Since writing it I have definitely decided to make another chuck about 10" in diameter, and for smaller work, I much prefer 1" rubber chair caps covered with a flat steel washer for the jaws, i.e. just like Cole Jaws.

Cheers, Garrett

>Hi Dennis

Here is another link to the Talon-jumbo jaws, I have the mega jumbo jaws, they fit my stronghold chuck, there is also a very good plan for making your own, on Darrell Feltmate's website, If interested, go to, http://aroundthewoods.com/

Then there is the Longworth chuck, you can make them any size you want, but the grip is weak compared to the jumbo jaws.

Have fun and take care
