>See Keith Outten, moderator of the Turning Forum on www.sawmillcreek.org. He makes square ones that do not slip like the OEM Round ones.

I think they are about $15 - but don't quote me.

>I made mine from a 1-7/8" X 2" block of half inch thick aluminum. Filed a quarter inch wide , " deep rabbet on each side along the 2" length. Drilled and countersunk the center for the OEM bolt & nut. Took all of maybe fifteen minutes to make it. Eliminated the creep completely, and doesn't impede the way the tailstock slides along the ways when loose.

>Pete, I assume you are referring to the Jet Mini.

Since so many of these tailstocks do lock down satisfactorily with the round OEM plate, you might want to be sure that the underside of the ways is clean of casting flash, paint, etc. and the cam and its nut isn't loosening. The tailstock locks ok, it's the ram locking handle that sometimes loosens on mine.

>I 'spoke' to Keith Outten. He gave me datails of what he did, including threading the hole so the square edges can be locked down tight with the nut and hold the edges in alignment.

My tool maker friend and I will make them next weekend.

Actually, he will make them. I'll just do the scut work....
