Jet Mini Tail Stock not working?

Carole in VA

>It will not move in or out when I turn the wheel. Just spins in place. What could be the problem? Please keep in mind that you are dealing with a mechanically challenged person here! LOL

>Carole, it sounds like you screwed the spindle all the way out. This is the way to remove it. Now, push it back in and turn the wheel counterclock wise to engage it. (push and turn at the same time) It should work now. Sonja

>Hmmm...it will turn now until it meets some resistance, then the whole spindle (the part the morse taper fits into) just spins. I can't eject the taper and I can't tighten it down on a workpiece since it just starts slipping inside the stock. I am assuming the slot in the spindle is suppose to engage on something but I can't see anything inside. There is a set screw in the wheel but that is tight.

Duh! New nick is HB

Carole in VA

>Just call me "HB" for half brain. I was peering inside looking for a rectangular key that would fit in the slot on the quill. How much dumber can I get? Thanks guys/gals. (Carole slinks off wondering if she should sell every piece of machinery she owns and take up knitting!)

>Heck no! Stop beating yourself up. Everybody does stuff like that. I'm sort of a pioneer myself when it comes to making mistakes. I tend to make mistakes no one else has ever made before.

But, do you know some people actually turn knitting needles on mini lathes? Betcha could do it on your Jet Mini.
