Tony in VA
>Pete,
I don't know of any places in Houston but must be some sort of neighbor. I live in Fredericksburg. Do you belong to one of the woodturning clubs in the area?

>Hi Tony,
I'm not an official member, but I do go to some of the CAW meetings. I am planning on joining, I just haven't gotten around to it. I need CA to show me how to sharpen!!!! How about yourself?
Where in F'burg are you? I was just down there today....

In addition to the Woodcraft and Cutting Edge Tools (HIGHLY recommended), there is a Rockler.

Jeremy in LA
>Hi Pete,
There is a Woodcraft there, and also there is a semi-new (1 year old) Rockler as well. I've been meaning to stop at the Cutting Edge on one of my trips through town, but haven't yet. Visit rockler.com and woodcraft.com to get street addresses, then use Mapquest to find directions. Tip: both Rockler and Woodcraft are in shopping plazas. Let me know if you need any help!

>If you are looking for turning supplies, The Cuttingedge is pretty much it. Too bad you aren't in town this week, Steve has a gettogther called "First Monday" at the store from 19:00-21:00 (7-9pm). Just a buch of the local turners wander by and do some turning, swap info. or watch someone else make shavings. There are a couple of lumber stores around town, but probably not worth your trouble to find. You can probably get the same wood in your part of the world. Except for the mesquite, "which we Texans would just as soon keep to ourselvs"... I do know of a fair amount of Pecan if you can bring a chainsaw. A pecan orchard just got dozed and there were 60 trees. After the last two weekends, there is significantly less, but still a lot of wood.
