Speaking of Dryer Sheets

Lee Weed

>It's not a good idea to use them as car air fresheners, at least not in Tennessee.Last Weekend I picked up my new Stubby(gloat) and met Capt. Skip in Knoxville to deliver the Jet 1642 that he bought from me.

So I'm driving South down I-75 Saturday heading back to Texas, trying to drive my way out of the sleet and ice storm. A couple of Tennessee's finest officers decide to have a look and see why A Suburban with Texas plates is riding a little low in back(thanks to the Stubby).

I told them to go ahead have a look around the vehicle...I have nothing to hide. They look under the seats and my wife had put dryer sheets there to make the car smell good. Guess what the Drug traffickers use to conceal the smell of drugs and currency from the K9's...Dryer sheets!!

After standing along the Interstate for over an hour freezing while they THOROUGHLY searched my vehicle, they figured out that I wasn't a trafficker, just a little insane for driving 2400 miles to get rid of one lathe and pick up another.

>That is too funny. I see nothing odd at driving through ice and sleet for something as wonderful as a Stubby. On the contrary, it shows your excellent judgement.....I have done the same!

Where are you in Texas?

>Funny you should mention. Story on the tube here last week about a car with Texas plates stopped for speeding just South of Milwaukee. Deputy found a quarter million dollars behind a panel that the occupants didn't know anything about.

Deputy musta smelt the dryer sheets when the car passed.

Capt Skip

>Lee, Did you forget about the cash you had in crisp $100 bills :)

Was an exciting weekend for sure.

I traveled through 260 miles of ice of the 520 miles back to Baltimore.

The whole time listening on the CB radio from the south bound drivers, that I was almost out of it only 15 miles further. This started back in Bristol, TN and I found clear weather just outside Washington,DC.

Was the carrot dangleing in front of the mule as I thought I was almost in the clear.

Still a great adventure for a great lathe.

Big Mike (Found the bearings cheep on ebay!)

>Grrrrrrr! Oh, I am thankful it was you and not me! You coulda heard me yelling all the way back to SW Indiana! Those old boys would still have me in jail just for spite!

That is NOT a funny story at all! There should be a law! Dont they need more probable cause than a loaded vehicle!... I think they should bust drugies but, they could see what was so heavy that should have been the end of it!

Next thing you know they will be doing the full search because they found 10 bucks in your wallet and We all know drugies use cash to buy drugs with Where will it end!

By the way Congrats on the new lathe

>TRue story.

A man, who was known to run a little moonshine, worked for my grandfather. An upper level Game Warden in SC.

Well, old Columbus was headed through town one day with the back end of his car dragging. Local cop stopped him hoping for a shine bust.

Now, old granddad and Columbus had a hog hunting habit. Except they used no gun, bow, or nothing. Just dogs, nasty beasts, and ropes.

They would run the hog down on horseback and live capture the hog.

Now, back to that traffic stop. Car dragging its back end, cop looking for a bust.

Columbus explains that there is a hog back there. A gbig one. And it sounds like it is loose.

Now I don't know, but I guess the noise was too much for the cops curiousity.

Ever see a wild, ticked off, hog running down a small town street?

Someone called Granddad from a store and he came down with a shotgun and killed it right there in amongst the stores and all.

I only wish I had video of it.

>Big Mike,

Like Capt. Skip said, they asked me if I was carrying a large amount of money. I don't suppose that the roll of 100's helped my cause.

The officer told me to wait in the patrol car to stay warm. I get in and look down on the console and there is his wallet..with bills hanging out of top. When I saw that I quickly exited the vehicle, the first thing I thought of was he is going to accuse me of stealing money from him.

Capt. Skip,

How's the lathe working for you?

>Hey Charlie,

Whereabouts in southern Md? Do you guys know Bob Bowes in Tall Timbers / Piney Point? How about Swan's in Piney Point?

I used to fish that area a lot, back when I was landlocked in Pittsburgh I'd drive down there. Being in Cape May now, I fish here, though I wouldn't mind getting back over there for a rockfish trip.

Hi Lee!

Dominic Greco at home in Richboro, PA

>Lee,

I just read your post and some of the responses you got. It really stinks that the police have to be so suspicious of anything out of the ordinary these days. But it sure shows that they are paying attention!

Good luck with the Stubby. I was sort of surprised to hear that you were selling the Jet (since it seems like you picked it up not that long ago). But upgrading all the way to a Stubby! Now THATS what I call upgrading in style!

It's also cool that Capt Skip was the one to buy your "old" Jet 1642. Sort of like "keeping it in the family" (so to speak). I'm sure he'll be real happy with it. He and I have been corresponding about the Jet 1642. Sounds like he pretty happy with the deal!

See ya around,

Dominic

Re: Hi Dom!

Lee Weed

>Hi Dominic,

I knew at some point I would be upgrading to a short "bowl" lathe. With the inevitable price increase on the next shipment Stubbys I decided to jump in now before the Jet had to many miles on it making it harder to sell.

It was more a matter of Want than Need....after all they both go round and round :)

The next time I'm in Baltimore(which will be the first) I know where I can go Fishing :)

>Russ,

The funny thing about the whole situation was that they did have a dog in the car, maybe it was to cold to let him out and they never searched Me.

>You could have been the victim of "reverse profiling".

I recently asked the person doing the stip search at the airport, "Why did you pick me? Did I look like a terrorist?"

The answer was interesting, "No, but we have to pick out more of those that don't look like a terrorist to prove that we aren't profiling those that do."
