>I'm curious to know about the Bedan as well. It's a tool that I don't own but have picked up on many occasions tempted to buy. John Hill used one a lot at Arrowmont when I was there and it looked like a great addition to his arsenal of tools. After playing with it a bit I thought it might be a very useful tool, or a nice replacement for my skews :) It's not a tool you hear a lot of discussion about but I would love to know more about what and how people are using it.
>Richard, I mostly use bedan with bevel down, sometimes up. it seems the most traditional way is bevel up, but the tool position is a bit more difficult to master.
Jen, I had written a page about the bedan on my website. it should answer some of your questions.
it won't replace your skew, but it's quite useful.
>I'll check out Pascal's site but I always use it narrow side down. When sharpened on a grinder it becomes concave. This is the most useful tool for removing wood from and sizing spindles. I gave a demo and made some tops and used it take down the wood for the top handle. Lots of shaving, oohs and ahhs, and I sold out all the bedans I brought with me to sell =o)
