Turning a Lamp

David Galloway

>I have turned a couple of bases for lamps and came to the time to put the hardware on. I am aware of some of the basics but wondering if any of you know a source for various methods of mounting the hardware on the wood. I purchased components at a lamp store but am not sure of the order of assembly. Any places to look?

Thanks,

David

I use short pieces of lamp rod. I drill a 3/8" hole all the way through. Mount the wood on the lathe and turn the lamp. Then I use a little epoxy on the threads and screw the lamp rod pieces into the wood at each end. I use 2 nuts jammed together and then screw the lamp rod in with a socket wrench. Then you can assemble whatever lamp hardware you want on these.

For short lamps you can drill a slighly larger hole and use one long piece of lamp rod all the way through. John
