Maple Burl Turning

>Piece measures 9 " X 4" with a natural edge of 1 1/2". The natural edge is unfinished. Remainder finished with Russ's 'Home Brew'.

Critiques/comments always appreciated.

>Hi Doug,

Nice piece of burl! Those are tough ones to sand aren't they. I really like the natural edge you left on it and the finish looks fantastic. If I may make one suggestion it might be to lessen the foot or pedestal a bit. It might be a bit large? I might even like to see the bowl sitting right on the table top without any foot at all? Just my 2 cents. Keep the pictures coming I love seeing your work.

Thanks Jennifer

>Hi Jennifer - thanks for the suggestion. I did consider a smaller base but my thinking was that the heavy rim and overall heavy appearance required a sturdy base. While the piece measures 9" across the widest point, the pedestal is 3 3/4" across. While it is hard to tell from a picture the pedestal doesn't appear too large as it sets on our glass toped coffee table. As they say it is all in the eye of the beholder and in this case the beholder is SWMBO - she likes it - I'm happy :).

>I like the natural edge a lot. Leaving it unfinished looks like a good choice. It allows the burl formation to stand out.
