...and Third Attempt at Burning w/pic

Jennifer@Indy.USA

>This bowl is turned from soft maple that I then bleached and then burned. My free hand burning has something to be desired. Next time I'll pencil in the design and then burn. I think this type of burning needs a differnt style of pen than the ones I have. I didn't get the finish on the burn that I wanted. Any suggestions? Again, hoping to improve on the burning, but I think it is going to be a lot of fun. This one is about 4.5 in diameter. Finished with Deft spray lacquer and Lee Valley Conservators wax. Comments welcome.

Thanks for taking a peek!

>Great work, Jen. Very elegant - not over done.

Looks like pyrography is on the upswing around here.

My wife is getting into it, too. SO now not only do I have to turn my work, I have to turn bowl for her to work on.

>Very nice Jen! Very interesting design. I even penicl in my signature before I burn it, so I can definitely see some value in doing a design in pencil first. It sure is a lot easier to change when it is only pencil!

Right now all I am burning is firewood. It is TWO degrees here, and not much warmer in the "schoolhouse" where my computer is.

How is your lathe? Is it up and running, yet?

I hope you are staying warm up there, we keep getting some of your cold weather down here!

Hi Mike!

>The lathe is runing now, but the very same day it was completed, we went into deep freeze. so at the moment I just cannot turn, it is too sold in there. Have been harvesting trees, it is outside but the work is so hot that it is ok. A couple maples better than 12" and a birch bigger yet, none of them in perfect health, but something will come out of it.

Thanks for asking, stay warm
