OT Internet Server

Glenn Hodges

>AOL has discontinued service to my woodturning newsgroup. They will only offer it to me if I go broadband, I can't go broadband because I live to far out in the country. This sounds like discrimination to me. I can not get them to give me a real answer, they send me a stock reply. I am thinking about changing my server. AOL is the most expensive server on the market. Big companies run the world, and peons like me get peed on. Have any of you experienced this?

>Ron, I would get DSL service if the phone company lines I must use to get service would provide the lines to handle DSL, but they will not. Anyone living more than 2 miles from their office cannot get DSL, this is what I ment by discrimination. The phone company will not provide DSL lines because we live in the country. I live 2.5 miles from their office, and I can't get DSL service.

>I understand.

I too live in the country and for a longest time the closet pole that had DSL was 1000. I had no choice but to wait or pay a few thousand dollars to have a line strung to my place. I waited and finally was able to get hooked up.

This is called economics, not discrimination, you are not getting peed on. Geesh!

Here is a link to set up a group that doesn't care what type of service you have. It works by email.

I consider this discussion closed. Good Luck!

>FYI:

I know Nashville,Ga. What Glenn didn't tell you folks is that the Nashvile phone company is still using tight string tied to tin cans. This tends to slow internet connections unlike the trumpets and hollowed reeds used in my more upscale hometown.:)

Stay the course, Glenn.
