>I got inspired by a book from Liz and Michael O'Donnell "decorating turned wood". They cut the silhouette of a bird into the walls of a bowl. This is my third bird and each gets more "flutter" and action suggestion than the last. My first posting. Thanks

>I like it, but I haven't a clue as to how to critique it. Nice piece of work. That took some time.

>After turning with a thick rim I hit it with Arbortec carving disc, proxxon carver, drum sander, rasps and rifflers, disc sanders, hand sanding, and Beal buff. Used in that order I am getting fairly fast at these puppies

>As I just said in another comment, I love that book and it inspired me to get into woodturning. I really like the way you took their idea a giant step further. It's great.

>This is fantastic. The sense of movement is fascinating. Do you draw the figure into the bowl before cutting and carving?

>I did look at the figure of the grain to see how it would work with the shape.I marked the rim and the shoulders and tail section. My first bird bowl actually was fashioned to get rid of an end grain spit by cutting it away with the jig saw. I still get rid of undesirable end grain. and those bowls are candidate for treating this way.
