NOVA mini-chuck at Woodcrafters

MountainMan

>I see it is on sale there - $99... I have the regular NOVA (not the Super NOVA) chuck that I use on the larger JET lathe. I also have a JET mini lathe.. Question is - Is there that much difference between the NOVA and the mini-NOVA, to use it sucessfully on the small JET lathe??

>I currently use the Nove Midi chuck on my JET mini with no problems at all. I have done platters, if you can call 9 3/4" a platter, with it without any problems.

The only drawback that i see with the Midi chuck is the use of two tommy bars to tighten. This has made for some interesting positions for me as I get the piece on straight and tight.

I do like the fact that it will take jaws from any of the Nova line of chucks. This for me will be a bonus when I move up in lathe size and also in chuck.

Hope this is what you were looking for.

>I had the same problem. Chucking the piece off the lathe is easier!

A magnet at the end of the tommy bar helps too.

>Thanks for the "tommy-bar" ideas... Actually, I was wondering if the larg NOVA chuck (despite its extra weight and diameter) would work o.k. on the smaller JET lathe.. Anybody use this configuration??

>When I bought my Jet 1014 I only had a large Vic chuck and it worked fine. I do have to admit that it did look a little strange. I bought a Nova 2 for it.
