New use for turning shavings

>We had an ice storm Saturday and my drive way was coated with 1/2 of ice. I have 2 4x4 trucks but my company truck is not. I had to call in today and tell the boss I could not get the truck out of the drive way. Tried Sunday and all I did was slide around. Used all the kitty litter I had no hand,10 lbs. Today I was looking at all the shavings under the lathe. It took me 2 hours but I got the truck out. I will not buy any more kitty litter unless I am changing to oil in my trucks.

I also got 5 pens and two bowls finished and one big elm bowl roughed out. Maybe ice and snow are not so bad after all.

>I put mine on the garage floor to absorb the drippings from my car in the winter.

It makes the place smell pretty and you don't step in puddles of water.

>I forgot about useing them to soak up the soap stuff I was using to dry bowls. I punched a hole in the vat I was using and dumped 10 gal. on soap in the shop floor. Messy ut the shop did smell good for a while.

>Dick, another of my untried, unthought out and potentially disastrous suggestions from my armchair. Could we use clean dry shavings (not sawdust soaked in DNA nor sweepings from covered bridges!) for padding turnings for shipping...and charge the recipients extra for getting rid of them. :)

>Arch, I have shipped bowls packed in "DRY" shavings. Dry is the key word here.

I also save shavings for a friend who uses them to fire her pottery and for the chicken house floor.
