While you were at the Home Depot, you could have bought a gallon of Liquid Nails. A bit more expensive than the above source for AnchorSeal, but I know of some folks who will swear that it is a better sealer.
I use old casting wax. It requires melting in a pot, but it is the best sealer I have used. It is easy to store and freezing is not a worry. Take a trip up to Joseph,OR and visit one of the foundries. Take a truck because it is in 1/2 barrel chunks, but the price is tight - free.

I've been using paraffin, and it seems to work fine for small stuff. But I had a 3/4 section of black locust, about 12 inches long, that I sealed end grain only (bark around the 3/4's) and left outside under a tarp. It must be a year and a half old now. I looked at it the other day and I see that it has a deep split all the way down the middle. Fortunately, I think (didn't look real close) I might have a solid half log there and that's a bowl. But seeing the split, I thought I should look for something better than paraffin.
Bob, thanks for the link... the website says you can get a free sample just for the asking (don't know what quantity) so i thought I would give them a hollar tomorrow.
