Attention Heather/ bandsaw problem
TD
>Heather, I am starting a new thread because by the time I saw your last post it was way down the ladder. A few weeks ago we had a good discussion on bandsaw safety. In the event you did not see that thread let me say again "Never put the narrow or small side of the log against the table". This is what causes kinked blades and short fingers. Use a disc mounted on top of the blank and saw around the disc. Also, when sawing endgrain be especially careful of fibres clogging your blade which causes you to push much harder against the blade; these fibres get longer or shorter as you cross growth rings and the piece being sawed may speed up quickly when growth rings are being crossed rather than being parted. The bandsaw is one machine that causes a lot on injuries if not understood but can be completely safe if used properly. Just remember, it was designed for "the flat works folks" not for us turners; we do things with it that were never intended by its designers.
