>I have a 14" piece of cherry waiting for me. I hope I do as well. Beautiful work! I hope your finish doesn't yellow with age. I used a poly-oil finish touted in a woodworking magazine on my cherry kitchen cabinets. What a mistake. The finish has yellowed over the years. Cherry doesn't look good to me, when it has an orange cast. Every time I look at them I wish I'd used lacquer! I may break down and strip them and refinish them. Stripping, especially Polyurethane is not one of my favorite jobs.

>I use a Danish oil probably ten coats as I wet sand I apply a coat. The oil dries for 3-4 days

then I apply a paste wax and buff. I have done

other cherry pieces and have had no yellowing.

Good Luck with those cabinets (lots of work)

>tried to have two coves meet at a point. In my

efforts to remove some tearout inside the undercut rim I lost the cove detail on the inner

cove so now it is a bead/cove and actually looks

pretty good. Hope that explains.....

>Bernie -- nice job on the platter. How thick is it and what is the depth of the platter? Also, was the wood green when you turned it and where in the world did you get a piece of wood that size? -- Wayne

>Wayne I like stock 2-1/2 thick this gives me options and I like to undercut the rim. The bowl

part is probably close to 2" deep. 90% of everything I turn is klin dried as the case with this one.

PS I have some 24"wide cherry crotch 3" thick

air drying......
