>I took delivery of a new Stubby 750 last Friday. It is set up and ready to go as soon as the weather allows me back in my shop.

>Congrats on your new toy!!! Nothing worse than getting a new toy and not being able to use it immediately. I feel your pain, it's been too cold for me to do any turning myself.

I'm starting to develop nervous tics from not being in the shop.

Ooooh I know your like a proud papa. I look forward to seeing the work you'll produce. I'm in my new shop and have my mini lathe working but the Powermatic still doesn't have power. I'll try to run that next week. Were supposed to have weather in the 50's. It was 40 in my shop this morning even with 2 heaters going. John

>Maybe even prouder. It was a long wait. I can't wait to actually get to use it, but it's just too cold. I can heat my shop if the outside temperatures are 30 degrees or above, but not like it's been this weekend. I'm already beginning to feel the pressure. Now that I have a better lathe, my wife is expecting the quality of my work to dramatically improve overnight. I'll probably be the only guy around using a Stubby to turn winestoppers.

Beautiful! : )

>Barry,

I had the pleasure of turning on one for the week I was at Arrowmont. I loved it. Congrats on your new shop toy! Get the heater pluggged in and have at it!

>Thanks! I can hardly wait. I'm sorta like a kid with a new sled and not a snowflake in sight. I know I am going to enjoy the heck out of it. You know, I have never turned on one. I have a couple of friends who have them and I have looked at theirs, but never turned on one. My shop is colder than cold. The thermometer fell to about 13 degrees last night. I have a 220V heater in my shop, but it can't handle those kinds of temperatures. If the temperature gets above 30 degrees, I'll be out there making shavings.

>I find the flat machined surface on the R end of the sliding bed to be the ideal location for the remote control box. Easy to reach while hollowing, and also slightly out of the way from the shavings that will pile up on the position its in now.It looks so clean and new- throw some shavings on it to break it in!

>Forgot! I suggest a shelf across the stand legs for the tailstock, aux. bed extension, etc, and I mounted a power strip on the vertical leg so that I can plug in sanders, lights, etc.

>I had already thought of installing the shelf. The power strip sounds like a good idea, too. Thanks

>That's just where the box landed. I'm sure it will get moved once I start using the machine. It does look unnaturally clean doesn't it? I promise to get it dirty real soon.

>Hi Barry,

Congrats on the new Stubby 750, you'll like it I am sure...

One little mod I made on mine, and prefer it much more that way, is to relocate the locking handle for the tailstock up front, it will be a much more normal way to operate. You push towards the headstock to lock and pull it back to unlock. It is so short that it doesn't get in the way and you have less chance of knocking your fingers on the tailstock itself... Works perfect for me...

Have fun,

Jean.

>Jean- you might be interested in reading the Stubby review I wrote for www.kestrelcreek.com some years ago. The short lockdown handle was one of my complaints, and I made a very workable modification to solve that problem.
