>The shape looks pretty traditional, like pottery. I guess the traditional shapes evolved because they are what is pleasing to the eye. I like it. You said you are working on the photos. How are you setting up your shot? It does seem the bottom is in better focus than the top. Are you using a tripod? Are you using manual or automatic settings on the camera? If you can use a smaller F-stop it will increase your depth of focus. You probably already know that. Taking pictures of my daughters sculptures and ceramic pieces for her portfolio was an adventure. I'm just offering suggestions from my limited experience.

Beautiful!

>Hi Ken,

I really like this form. The nice flow of the grain really animates the piece. If I had to pick one thing that I would change it would be to possibly make the base a bit narrower? That's being rather picky but that's just my eye. It's a beautiful piece and I would be very proud of it!

>Tom,

Thank you!

Leo,

Thank you!, I agree about the shoulder, but I reached the limit of my hollowing tool, and did'nt want to make the opening any larger. I am making a new tool for the next one with a sharper bend

>Jennifer,

Thank you, means a lot coming from you!!

I keep making the bases narower and narower, my first ones look rather clunky in comparasion, perhaps will go even further on the next one. Do you think it should be taller to have a narrower base, or just curve in more sharpley?

thank you

>thanks Tek,

right now using Auto settings on a digital camera, I will try some of your sugestions, I have just been working on lighting and backrounds so far. did not think there would be so much extra to learn in turning!! I've been doing searches here, lots of good info

thanks

>Ken,

I'm not sure if bringing the curve in more "sharply" is what I mean, but just cut more of the sides away in order to make the foot smaller. You can still leave that nice curve that you have, but just bring it in more to reduce the diameter at the foot.

I hope I'm explaining that clearly?

>Certainly have to agree with the others that this is indeed a very eye-pleasing turning in both shape and grain flow. I REALLY like that grain flow, kinda looks like a wave. This is from the White Paper birch right?

Only suggestion I could offer is to photograph it with some else to give a better idea to it's actual size/scale.
