Indy show and Al Crandall

Doug J Crawfordsville, IN

>I just got home from Indy and going to the wood show was a very special treat. I got to meet Al Crandall at the AAW turning booth. What a great and informative guy. He help me to understand a few things more clearly in my turnings. Mostly he helped me set up my Wolverine system to achieve and keep the longer swept back grind on my gouge.

7"-4"-2"-3rd notch,, I got it Al. You folks ought to see his hollowing system, works like a charm.

Very nice to meet you Al and Thanks for everything, Doug

>Hi Doug,

I met Al at the Badger Pond Good Bye Party in Indy a few years back. I had such a great time talking with him, I know if I lived closer I'd be over bugging him all the time!

:-)

Take care,

Jim

>I'm in the process of building Al's hollowing system and can't wait to get it done. He has been really helpful in correcting my ignorant mistakes. As was said, a great guy to meet and talk to.

Al Crandall

>It was a long three days of standing on my feet, and I'm bushed. I can't take the long hours on concrete like I used to. But I still had a great time.

>It'is always a hoot to get to talk with Al about any and all things...turning or other!!

Just a great guy and a real master of...."Who needs to buy that thingamabob...I can make it"

I am in awe, Mr. C...

Fun @ the show..

Jennifer@Indy.USA

>Yes Al and his hollowing rig did steal the show this weekend....I noticed we haven't seen any pictures of what he turned out there this weekend though. He had a pile of hollow forms that were mighty nice. Maybe that's what I should do next year...just chain myself to the club booth for 3 days. Maybe I'd get some turning done! You turned more this weekend than I have in weeks! It was great to see everybody out there this weekend. Our Indy Women's Woodworking Guild was right across the isle from the Turners club this year so that was really fun. Had a great time!

Check the articles...

Rod Peterson -- Ormond Beach

>Al's article on his laser guided hollowing fixture (with picture) was posted last week on the WoodCentral Articles section of this site.

It's about of the way down the page in the Turning Tools & Techniques section and it's entitled Shop Built Hollowing Rig with Laser for Mini Lathe.

It's worth a look.
