question on how to cut up wood

chad smith

>I just started to turn and was wondering what is the best way to cut up a tree, so that it's easy to turn on a mini lathe. I live east texas so I've got a lot of trees that fall during storms. I've got a red oak in my yard now that I'm dying to cut up just don't want to mess it up. Any help would ge grateful.

>Chad,

Bill G's site is a good one for basic instruction, but I would encourage you to experiment.

If you have a whole red oak plus lots of other trees that come down in bad weather, then you probably have access to more wood than you can turn before it starts to go bad.

Remember that wood is essentially a perishable commodity until you turn it into a finished product. You'll do more harm to it by letting it lay on the ground than you will by cutting it up into manageable pieces.
