A couple of turnings

Doug

>Comments/Critiques welcome.

First attempt at square bowl. Bowl measures 7 X 7 X 3 while wings are 3/16 thick. I believe it is Big Leaf Maple. The color is accurate in photo.

Small hollow vessel measuring 3 3/4 wide by 4 tall. BL maple with bark inclusion. Color is accurate.

Thanks for looking - Doug

>Hi Doug,

I like them both, but I especially like the square one. The shape of the bowl looks great and I like the illusion of the square cutting through it. The wood is pretty too! Nice job on both of them!

>Hi Doug,

I agree with the others, the square bowl is really neat. How was the finishing? Did you finish on the lathe or take it off to sand/finish?

Thanks for the pics. I like the hollow form as well, but the square bowl is what really catches my eye.

Thanks,

Mike

finish/sanding

Doug

>Thanks for the comments. I sanded the bowl portion of the square bowl with the lathe running. I hand sanded the wings part way while still on the lathe (not running). Then finished hand sanding and applying finish off the lathe.

Finish on square bowl is walnut oil.

Finish on hollow vessel is R. Fairfield's Home Brew.
