Container for DNA?

>What kind of container is everybody using for alcohol drying? Generic 5 gal bucket? I'm hesitant-- some years ago my dad soaked a piece in a plastic garbage can & had the can disolve.... Not good.

It's all snowy here in Detroit. To snowy to drive over to my shop. Guess I'll actually have to work today. Bummer.

Thanks!

Chuck

>i've used a plastic bag in shaving for the large wall-hanging. it worked well, although there was some slow seepage

also, i have an old kitty-litter tub with a snapping lid that holds some large bowls and vessels.

finally, i found a tupperware tub with a snapping lid at yardbirds for 5.00 which is 26"long x 24" wide.

>Hi Chuck,

I've got mine in a generic 5 gallon bucket with snap on lid that I got from the borg. I've seen Vodka and other hard drinks in thin plastic bottles, so I guess the thick plastic of the 5 gallon drum will be OK? I hope so :)

I'm curious as to what others say about this.

Thanks for the post,

Mike

>I use the orange 5 gallon pail from home depot, it has a rubber seal on the lid so it doesn't evaporate to guick. I also use a large tupper-ware type container for larger pieces and then pour it back in the pail when done.

>I also use a 5 gal plastic can for soaking smaller bowls and vessels. I also got a 25 gal drum and cut the top half off. It is used for items that are too large for the 5 gal can. When I am done soaking, I put the DNA back into a 5 gal plastic gas can. That way I lose a minimum amount of alcohol due to evaporation.

>Abbreviations and acronyms are a slippery slope.

Funny how a frame of reference colors perceptions. Not being into drying with alcohol and just seeing the subject before reading your query, I figured that you had injured yourself and I thought to offer a smart alec retort. "Your skin is the best container for most of your nucleic acid" would have been an embarrassing answer. Glad I read further this time, altho I often fail to read or think before writing. :)

>If you can find a container with a (5) on the bottom use it - it is polypropylene and will resist the alcohol nicely. The plastic bottles for vodka are typically PET (polyester terpthalate) and are also resistant. BTW - Tupperware is typically polypropylene.
