>Can anybody tell me what time the festivities get started on day one of the symposium...and what time they conclude on the last day....I'm trying to see if it's a doable thing for me, and I'm not finding specific info on the AAW site?

Thanks!

Jennifer

>How about a Stubby hat! I am told that my favorite lathe will be available for my demos this time, then I won't have to use one of those ugly "mustard" colored machines again! But they are better than the poor dudes who had to use the "D's!"

>Out of curiousity, I decided to check on air fares from Baltimore to Kansas City... what a surprise to find out that I could not only get a great airfare, but also 4 days at a decent local hotel for $529... now all I have to do is convince SWMBO that I really really need to do there so I can be all I need to be, LOL

My other choice was a scrolling convention in Portland around the same time.. one day event and the cost was $549 for airfare and 2 hotel days..

DUH... no brainer as far as I was concerned..

I used travelocity to check the airfares..

>Any questions anyone has about the Kansas City area? I can look out the window where I am working and see the convention center. I can tell you about the best BBQ place (IMHO) Fiorella's Jack Stack BBQ, the best cheap BBQ place 135th Street BBQ in Martin City, or any other questions you might have (with a little help from my friends.

should I rent a car?

Mike Schwing from Md.

>Or just take taxis? I don't really have anywhere else I _need_ to go while there but I do enjoy the freedom of a car when I want one. At this point, not planning on a rental. I'm staying at the host hotel - the Sheraton.

>Mike,

I am probably driving up, and I am sure other WC and WOW members probably are. Just grab one of us (or at least me) and get a ride.

>Mike in Orlando we didn't need a car. There really isn't much time to do anything other than meet people and learn turning. There was a dinner one night off site and a few people you already know did the driving. All worked out wonderfully.

I still working on my lovely better half about needs of attending.

>Defintely rent a car. The airport is close to 45 miles from the convention center (if you take I-435 around the city which is my suggestion if you come in on Friday you will think you are out in the sticks for the first 15 miles or so). Where is your hotel, Mike? I can give you an idea where that is in relationship to the convention center.

>There are some shuttles you can get from the airport that would be cheaper than taxis. If interested I'll look them up and give you their number, but I would want a car. Think a lot more spread out then other cities you've been in. Remember, Overland Park is a suburb of Kansas City. I imagine the convention center will have food, but it will cost you an arm and a leg. The closest restaurant to the convention center is probably 1 1/2 to 2 CITY blocks away. You could work on your "turning muscle" (which I have a lot of), Bill Grumbine's term not mine, by walking, but for time's sake I would want a car.

>Hey John,

The only one shuttle my wife and I have ever used was KCI shuttle 816-243-5000. It was a nice clean van with a personable driver. I think it was $40 round trip but I know that was several years ago. Once again I would recommend renting a car as you can stay out of downtown KC by taking I-435 around west of the city. Either way, good luck in your planning.
