>I thought I would share a finishing tip, for those who spray lacquer. After applying your usual finish, and sanding between coats, the final polishing steps often reveal spots where the lacquer has been sanded through to the layer below. The result is obvious dull areas wherever this has happened.

A tip my former business partner showed me, when we built furniture together....use straight lacquer thinner, or a very diluted mixture as the final coat. A light mist, followed by a heavier coat, being sure to get no runs.

The result is a smooth finish, no orange peel, and no signs of layering, as the thinner blends everything back together.

Just to make sure I understand, are the steps:

1. Put layers of lacquer

2. Do final polish

3. Put coat of lacquer thinner

4. THE END ?

>Hi Dinyar, yes that is it. You can leave it as is, or repeat the polishing steps. it's harder to do on a turned form than, say a flat table top.

My new airbrush is ideal for this.

>My airbrush is a badger 175, I have a Devilbiss regulator, for now I'm using an air-tank for air supply. Need to purchase a compressor; I'm considering an electric model.
