Florida Woodturning Symposium

David Galloway

>I have been talked into going to the Florida Woodturning Symposium in Eustis, Florida this weekend. I am very excited about the demonstrations that are scheduled as well as the chance to rest after a tough Christmas schedule. My question is for any folks who live in the area: are there some places I should go, wonderful restaurants, etc....I am planning to get there early and stay a day late. Any thing interesting in the vicinity other than Orlando? Thanks.

>If you are into antiques and a quaint city Mt. Dora is just to the East. It is a typical artsy crafty town. Ocala is to the North with some of the lushest horse farms in the country. Cape Canaveral is 1 1/2 hrs to the Southeast. Daytona and NASCAR is 1 hr to the East. As always there are the theme parks a plenty. Sanford is E on 46 and has an antique store abundance. Beaches are cold this time of the year but not very crowded. If I can help further e-mail me and I will send you my number. Dennis

>David,

I think I told you that I was going, but LIFE got in the way. We had to move our Club meeting to this weekend, and I am the demonstrator. That along with the fact that my daughter heads back to college Sunday.

Would have liked to meet.

>David,

In Mt Dora there is a nice Flea Market. A couple of good tool dealers frequent on the weekends.

Sanford

Rod Peterson -- Ormond Beach

>The Utter Guys is just south of the Sanford Airport roughly at the intersection of SR 427 and Lake Mary Blvd. That's worth a trip (Saturday, though, as I'm sure they're closed on Sunday).

Woodcrafts are almost a dime a dozen, but if you feel compelled to add that to your list, there's one in Casselberry on SR 436 just east of 17-92. That's east of Altomonte Springs, for reference.

If you're going as far as Daytona, I'm there in Ormond Beach, just north. Always like meeting Islanders. Let me know if you're going to head this way.

Back in the other direction, there's the Wood Shop of Ocala (although it's more like between Silver Springs and Belleview) although it's not open on the weekend.

Don't get too confused with easts and wests as I-4 (technically an east/west highway) goes almost straight north and south through the northern burbs of Orlando.

>Thanks guys. I am probably leaving in the morning and take my time. If you think of any place else let me know. I am very excited by the line up of demonstrators, particularly Mahoney. Trent Bosch is an excellent presenter as well although I have been with him on numerous occasions. I think we have about 6 folks going from the GAW based at Highland Hardware. Should be some fun. Thanks again for the tips.

Blessings,

David
