>I have a 1442, need to raise it up, figure about a 4x4 post...if I cut the post to fit, and screw it in with lags thru the holes, do I need to have the adjustable feet?..is there any reason not to use a simple 4x4 post?...treated?...Dennis

>My Pm 3520 sits on 4x4's. I cut two long enough extend past the legs. Got the lathe on the 4x4, no easy tasj, and then used dry wall screws to attach 2x4 pieces on the end, side and behind the legs. This keeps the big boy on the 4x4's. It has been sitting there for going on 3 years nice and solid and gives me the height I need.

4x4s work just fine

Dominic Greco at home in Richboro, PA

>Dennis,

Mike provided a link to the article I wrote on the fabrication of a set of trestle legs for my Jet 1642 Lathe. The trestle feet raise the lathe up to a more comfortable height for me. I used pressure treated lumber to make mine. However, I didn't have a solid 4x4 available. So I laminated several 1 x 4s together.

Since the floor in my shop is somewhat even, I didn't feel there was a need for machine levelers.

But they would be easy to add. If you really feel like you need them, just use some 3/8" T-nuts and the factory supplied levelers (they happen to be 3/8"). You'd need to drill some counter bored holes in the bottom to accept the T-nut, and a 7/16" dia clearance hole. But thats really not all that much work.

See ya around,

Dominic

>I have two lathes raised on 4x4's. The Delta 1640 Steel Bed has two 4x4's under each end. No adjustable feet. A friend and I ran allthread through the 4x4's and the steel base - counterbored for the nuts on the bottom.

I have raised my Jet Mini on it's Jet Mini stand with one 4x4 under each end and locking swivel castors under those.

Both work great.

THANKS TO ALL

Dennis Taylor (Akron, Ohio)

>Thanks to all that responded, and espically to Mike L, I read the link article and I went about putting tressel legs on my Jet today, and it made a world of difference, not hunched over, and if I am not mistaken, I feel I have better tool control, thanks to all of you...great source of turning info and a good bunch of turners...Dennis
