Nova 3000 Saga

Jorge Castaneda ~ Downeast Maine

>After much asking and hearing good things about the Nova 3000, a month ago the familiy gave me their blessing, so I went ahead and ordered it from Woodcraft, I was told they had it on stock and will ship same day; It took a couple weeks to come and the excitement was very short lived when opening the box and realizing that a whole bunch of stuff was missing, so I got to the phone and explained what was missing and they say it would go out right away, some 10 days later, I got a box, so I started to assemble the machine to find out that some stuff was still not here, so back to the phone, more reassurance etc.

Today I got the parts, finally everything is here and when trying to assemble the pulley to the motor, I noticed the keyway was cut very sloppy and the set screw that holds the pulley to the motor shaft does not want to go in.

So I still do not have a working lathe.

Have any of you had this kind of trouble?

If so, how it was resolved?. Thanks

Jorge

>Jorge,

I'm really sorry to hear you are having problems with your lathe. I'm also sorry to say I've no good advice to give, just my sympathy and hopes that it all gets straightened out quickly.

There's little more dissapointing than having troubles with a new tool.

Good luck,

Mike

>I got mine from woodcraft and everything went together well. That was my second Nova lathe and I was quite satisfied with the lathe and the technical support I got from Technitool. I ended up selling the Nova 3000 to get a bigger lathe but I still like my Nova Comet. There's nothing more frustrating than getting a new tool and having to fiddle with it to get it working. I wish you luck. John

>Hi John,Most of what I heard about this lathe was like your experience, positive, I hope to end with a good lathe, I chose the Nova because it was the only upgrade from the mini that fits in my winter working space, and budget, both very small, I just never expected to get a project instead of a working tool.

Thanks

>Jorge, My Nova 3000 was my frist decent lathe I also got it from Woodcraft but picked it up in the store. Hate it when parts are missing. The keyway thing could cause you a problem. I only had mine for about two weeks when the motor shaft broke. It was obvious that the shaft was crystalized at the point where it broke (just aft of the keyway). I also may have tighetned the belt a bit much but whoes to say. I love the machine though and it has taken quite a beating...

>Hi Darryl,

Yes, I am leary about that keway, it could mess up the motor shaft, so I am going to ask them to send me a good pulley, another wait...

>Jorge,

Sorry to hear you`re having trouble with your new lathe,I know you have been looking forward to moving up.

I wonder if you`d have better luck if you went thru Technatool rather that Woodcraft. If you look in the archives the US rep posted here awhile back.Either that or contact one of the fellows who are posting afew lines down and see who they had luck with.

Woodcraft only serves as a middleman and I`m sure they are just sending along whatever they have at hand.I`ve found that if I deal with the manufacturer directly and talk to someone who has a good working knowledge of the particular product and problem then I usually get both better results and more info than I need(usually by way of tips for operation or upgrades the dealer didn`t know about).

Good luck with the lathe.Once you get it up and running and all this is behind you you`ll be glad you went thru the trouble and time to get it right.

The arms

Bob Hackett

>Still in the process of getting the arms fixed.I had the right forearm and shoulder both cut at the same time 3 days before Thanksgiving. It`s just the start of what looks like a long road and several more procedures.

I hope to get back to turning at least simple small items before the next wave of cutting.

Thanks for asking.
