My latest turning *LINK*

>This is some type of pear,I don't remember what type the guy told me it was when he gave it to me.

It is 6" X 4 1/4".

It is very thin,as I had several catches and had to keep re-turning it.The top cracked too bad to save so I put a piece of cherry, after cutting the rim down.

Any suggestion for improvmenet are welcome.

>The bowl is beautiful. I wish it were mine. If I were going to improve on it, I would make the insert smaller. The bowl is wonderful as it is but the insert detracts from its beauty. Perhaps not even smaller but bring the edges up from very thin so there is a continuous flow. Hope that makes sense!

>Carl, it looks nice, but I had to work to view it!

I like the side profile with its continuous curve, and the finish as well, but I do have two areas of suggestion, since you asked.

First, while it looks like you might have tried to change that, the piece ends too abrubtly at the bottom for my eye. If you were able to "tuck it in" a little more, as Wally puts it, with a slightly more pronounced curve near the bottom, I think your work would please you even more.

Next, the insert looks a bit "chunky". They are very hard to get right, though, and I have a lot of "almosts" that sit in the shop wondering what they're going to be used for. Thinning it out might help finish this piece off nicely, as would increasing the diameter of the hole.

Nice job. Please keep posting your work!

Notice the "http://http//" at the start -- that is what is breaking the first link. If you right click on that link in Internet Explorer, you can choose "Copy Shortcut" then paste it in a new message's Optional Link (but make sure you fix the address before you post).

I have had much turning help on this forum, so i thought I'd chip back in on something I could help with!

>Earl and Mike,Thanks for the tips.I will work on rounding the bottom off more so it flows better.

As far as the top insert.I had a turned up lip on the original wood, but it kept cracking and splitting.Even after using CA on it several times I could'nt stop it.The wood is still green but not real wet.I finally had to cut the lip off and put the cherry top on.Otherwise the opening would have been as big as the piece of cherry that is on it now.Maybe I should have left the opening big.

And yes I did ask for suggestions and I meant it.So again thanks for the input.

Mike sorry you had to work at seeing the pic.Maybe next time I will do it right.
