turning a rose
Keith Tompkins
>A turned rose, the blossom is holly, the stem is ebony, the cube is cherry burl. All elements of this piece are turned; the cube is turned on three axis points to form a cube, then hollowed and a threaded ebony insert is installed.
The stem is turned in a similar manner as a goblet, leaving a bulge in the center of the stem, which was later bandsawed to shape. The thorns are from my rose garden, which is in a sad state of neglect.
mortise and tenon joints holds all components together.
