WOOHOO! Got my first lathe!

MT

>Well, I finally purchased my first lathe. Nothing fancy and I have to build a stand for it and hook up a motor. I found it looking through a used tool dealers junk pile. It's an older craftsman 103.23070 and the only thing it's missing is the indexing pin. It's a 9x30 and it also has the 15" bed extension. I have a 1/2hp motor that I will use for it. It's in pretty good shape considering the age, pretty dirty and has some rust but everything works.

>congrats, MT! I believe that lathe was produced by King-Seely...a division of GM. The oldest ones were labeled as such. I am looking for one to complete a collection.

Happy turning!

>Congrats MT on your new lathe!

If you have questions about it a great resource for old machines is www.owwm.com. I have several old 1940's 1950's machines that I have restored and use regularly. For the lathe you may consider getting a VS DC motor for it you will be glad you did. Feel free to email me with any questions and enjoy your new lathe!

>That looks just like my first lathe. Before I bought my Nova 3000, I added 3" risers so that I could turn 15" stuff on the inboard side. Turning outboard on a stand is scary.
