>I must caution all of those who I have mislead in a recent post regarding using 2 X 4s

for glue blocks. Dont do it or at least be very sure of the kind of material it is. I had

been using old long leaf pine 2 X 4 s and they worked fine. I ran out of these and used

another 2 X 4 which turned out to be SYP. What a difference! The wood just doesnt

hold together. My recommendation is to forget the stupid advice to use 2 X 4s and get

some hardwood blocks to use. Far safer and less likely to cause problems. Hope no one

has had problems because that poor advice.

Cruddy wood even by my previous standards. Stamped as being from Czech Republic.

Species unknown, seems very fragile. Luckily I was just messing around with it. I used it for a temporay rack for my kayak.

I've since used some of it for turning practice and been glad I had on my faceshield.

>I recently used a piece of scrap Ipe for a three inch glue block on a heavy off center piece of wet Mimosa 19 in. diam. Every time the chisel hit the high spot in bumped the glue block a little off register. I had to replace the glue block on the chuck four times brfore I got yhe blank round. The Ipe is just too hard for the jaws to dig in enough to stand the bumping. Yes, I should have used a larger glue block. Bill
