Windsor Stool

>This is my first time posting a pic on this forum, so please pardon the photography, but here's a Windsor stool that I made this week while on vacation. It is destined to be used by my wife at her sewing machine. It was inspired by an article in Fine Woodworking from February 2004. It turned out to be a lot more challenging than I had expected, mainly due to issues with drilling the holes for the legs at the proper angle. I think that it came out OK after all - let me know what you think!

The seat is approximately 14" diameter and it sits 20" high.

>Beautifully done stool but the first thing your wife should make is a cushion.

>Nice stool, Brian. I have a couple of suggestions for your next one. The seat is more comfortable if you dish it out about 5/8" to 3/4". Also the sharp edges on the top of the seat will tend to be uncomfortable if one sits for long on the stool. I like to use 1 1/2" material and then curve the top of the seat down about 3/4" and I also curved the bottom of the seat edge up about 3/4". The two curves meat in a hard line at the middle of the edge of the seat. An example:

Just this old has been's opinion.

>The bamboo style turnings are quite nice. I would round over the edges of the seat a bit so they won't cut into the legs when you sit. Have you thought about using a contrasting wood for the tenon wedges? It can add a bit of color to the stool top - unless you just want to use the whiteness of the maple to make your statement.

Nice job. Those are nice stools. Here is my version. Painted red with milk paint. Then painted black and steel wooled through the black in spots.

>Thanks for the feedback. As for the "Windsor Bug", not sure that it has truly bitten - maybe a couple more stools as time permits, but I think that I like turning bowls better for now.
