>I think this one will wind up my 1st year of this wonderful affliction. Very curly piece of crotch Box Elder with a Bloodwood collar. 7.5" diameter by 4" tall. I toyed around with a lacquer finish on this one. I really need to sand/buff/polish it a little more as it still has a few annoying orange peel areas to deal with.

>That's beautiful, Travis! I love the way that the bloodwood "picks up" the red stain from below.

Serendipity or intent?

The reason I ask is because I am not sure how the bloodwood colar was made...and when? Is it turned separately and glued on after the vase is done? Or is it an additonal layer that is glue on before the vessel is turned?

Thanks for posting the pic and thannks for nay help you can offer.

>Hi Travis,

This is a vey beautiful vessel. I love the color of the collar in accent to the red streaks of the body. The form has a lovely shape as well. Very nice job!

DW, I wanted to accent the red in the Box Elder. I'm happy with the way it turned out,as it seems to have accomplished what I had hoped for.

I glued the Bloodwood block to the mouth after I hollowed and finished the inside, then turned the collar and blended it in with the body. I know others might turn their collars separately, I've never tried that way, but it seems easier for me to blend in by turning it on the vessel.

Hope that made sense. :)
