>I'm doing a demo next month for the Tennessee Association on turned clocks. While I'm waiting for the glue to dry on a loose knot in the piece of wood I'm now turning I decided to look for some turned clocks. I only found one in American Woodturner and one in Wood Magazine. I haven't been able to find any others in all the books I have.

Do any of you all have any photos or sites of clocks. I wanted to have some examples of clocks other than the one I make. I don't have any photos of the clocks I made years ago. I guess I didn't think I would ever need them.

>John,

Check over on WOW. There have been a few posted. You should be able to do a search.

Good luck on your demo!

Go to my website if you are interested in a pocket watch. I think that is a clock.

Thanks. completely forgot about the clock in Woodwork. I guess I was too hung up on Michelle Holzapfel's work and Steven Gleasnor's work in that mag to pay attention to a lowly clock. Nicely done though.

Nice clock. I'll print of the photo and show them one of the options. I don't have any numbers or clock faces so I'm going to inlay dowels at an angle to form contrasting color ovals for the number positions.

Thanks for that tip. Pocket watches are a great idea. I need to get a photo of my dad's nut and bolt watches. They aren't as nice as your pocket watch but they are different.

>I buy them locally as I also repair watches.

The best supplier that has woodturning specific products is:

http://www.craft-supplies.co.uk/ click Online shoppping, clocks, faces

A couple of USA sources is

http://www.bjcraftsupplies.com/clock/ and http://www.merritts.com/store2/main/default.asp for numbers and complete faces

I'm sure you can google and find more via google.

Your clock that you're making sounds interesting, it would be nice if you can post a pic when it's done.

>OK Randy, what's an oval chuck and where do you get them or do you have to make it? I have seen articles describing them but did not know they still existed. The mechanism is somewhat complicated if I remember correctly. As always your work is way beyond outstanding!

>In the book "Adventures in Woodturning", by David Springett, there's a couple of chapters on making and using an oval chuck. I think he also did a video on it. For just a simple flat piece like I did, using a bandsaw would've been a lot easier & faster.

>Thanks. Yeah, the brass was turned from 1/4" rod (finials) and 5/8" rod. The woods are blackwood & pink ivory.
