turning mess

>If and when I get my new shop I'm going to install one of the plastic barriers we have talked about a few times in the past. I just finished a 12" natural edge bowl and there are shavings as far away as 10 feet in 2 directions. They went 6 feet up the basement steps. Completely covered the wall and shelves at my back. Rough guestimate is they covered about 100 square feet.

A few minutes of sweeping and shoveling took care of most of the problem. Let's face it, turning bowls is a messy operation. At least this one wasn't wet enough to spread water up the wall and ceiling and no bugs splattered anywhere.

>John did you get those 6 or 7 large wet ones laying on top of the table saw?

>I find a shower curtain works wonders at corraling those chips.

But then with the curtians down I can't practic shooting them into the trash can.

Turning should be fun.

>6 or 7? I had a maple carpet over my table saw and miter saw. You couldn't even see my planer. I did take off a little more wood than normal. I decided after the fact that the bowl should be shallower than usual. this required taking a lot more wood out of the bottom than usual.

You should have seen the shop when I roughed out the 2 18" bowls. Makes you want a coring system.

>Speaking of bugs. You ought to hit a large Palo Verde grub. Palo Verde is a local native tree here. I have seen them up to 7 " long and as large as your index finger. Now that may take a little more than a shower curtain.

>Bill

An inch wide and 7 inches long. Man you ought to put that on the gril, or fry it up with mush'rooms and butter.
