Oh, the pain

>A goof up. A very painful one. Got a catch at the bottom of the hollow, lifted the tool up and broke the form as it hit the rim. Not the first time, but might be the most painful. This was gonna be a looker.

>And it was so nice and thin. My sympathies. I guess it will make a nice bowl as opposed to a hollowform.

>MMM .. maybe you could build a nice segmented top and fit it in place...
or as suggested, it would make a real nice thin bowl...

>Thanks guys. There are enough bowls in this world that this one doesn't need to be a save. A bowl should start out as a bowl. There will be plenty more learning experiences to come. I think this will be displayed on my roughs shelf so that I can remember!

>Ouch. That did look like a great veseel. As Ray Key teaches, never make the final cut. Or as another teacher once told me, never let my fear of blowing up a vessel keep you from making the cut that makes the shape live. Between the two is probably where I live mostly.
Just for grins, what do you do with your explosions? One of my friends, Phil Coulson, took pieces from an exploded bowl, linked the pieces with lucite dowels and created a sort of "big bang" piece. It's actually on display at Highland Hardware the next time you get to Atlanta.

Be creative and sand the edges. May be a little fire on the inside and edges could make an interesting look.
Good turning and be very safe

>Ouch....sorry 'bout that Mike.....I say take a coping saw and start making something out of it. A cool undulating rim or something? Don't toss it by any means.
