Finally... one that did not turn to firewood

>I finally got a finished bowl that did not turn to garbage or have the bottom cut through....

Pens I can do... but bowls are still on the learning curve for me...

It is far from perfect, but good enough that we will use it for a nice candy dish for Christmas.....

Dry Black Locust (can you say "let's cut some concrete with a dull pen knife")

Finish is a couple of coats of Deft Brushing Lacquer polished with Micro Mesh

It was coming out sooo nice I decided to really go nuts and experiment with some crushed pink coral on the rim... there are a couple of little voids, but on this bowl I am not going to worry... I did find out that I can do it..

>Wow- a bowl that flies and levitates! The computer design is fun to play with but detracts from the turning, and that's the main reason for posting here.

>Larry that is not inlace... the is come crushed pink coral I got from Bill B at Arizona Silhouette.. a lot cheaper and you only need some thin CA to put it in place...

Jamie.. sorry you don't like my background... but computer graphics is my business and I just wanted to make the background the same for the joined images...

>Hi Tom,

That's really cool! I love the pink coral. How hard was that to work with? I've done some stone crushing and epoxy mixing and like the results. I'd like to get some of that coral and give it a try. Did you try to "finish" the coral once it was in place or ??? I'd love to hear more details of how you used the thin CA to work with it.

I like the background, neat effect!

>Actually the crushed stone I got from Arizona Sihouette was quite easy to work with and came with a good set of directions.

After cutting the groove, I took the chuck and bowl off the lathe and set it on my bench with a old cookie sheet under it to catch the excess... I then dribbled the stone into the groove (mounding it a little) and then dripped thin CA until it was filled.. after about 10 minutes I gave it a light spray of mild accelerator and back to the lathe to trim it... I found that a well sharpened round nose scraper with very light cuts worked like a dream... then sanded it to 400 grit and put on my finish.

HELL, if I can do it anyone can... LOL
