How to sharpen a spindle gouge

>Hi All, I'm trying to sharpen this into a fingernail grind but am having trouble doing it free hand. Can you use a Wolverine jig to do this? I use the Wolverine to do my bowl gouge and it works great for this. How do you sharpen yours? Thanks in advance. Alan in Md.

>The vari-grind jig is a great addition to the Wolverine set-up and makes this profile a lot easier to achieve. Doing it free hand is possible but not easy as you are finding out. If paying for a vari grind jig seems costly, just add up the hours you'll spend trying to get the fingernail profile by hand. As with the jig it only takes a matter of minutes setting it up and getting the angles right the first time.
