>I do not have a scale to determine when the alcohol dunked bowls are dry. Instead I use the drying crystals that you can find in a craft store for drying flowers. (they can be found at half the price elsewhere). After about a week when the paper bag I have the bowl in is feeling dry I put the bowl in a clear trash bag (so I can see the if the color changes)and fill it an inch or so with the crystals. Serves two purposes. Helps to finish the drying if needed and if the crystals stay blue overnight I know the excess moisture is gone. By the way the crystals are rejunvinated by heating in the oven...

>For those that deal with compressed air on a regular basis, those crystals are the same as those used in Air Dryer Regulators and I believe you can get the crystals by themselves through McMaster Carr

>John that Veritemp site advertizes bags for that purpose. The also have cannisters I believe. Dry Pak (the maker probably) has more info on their site. One of the uses is to keep rust out of cutlery drawers.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I have to dissassembe my hand planes about every 3 months to keep the rust at bay. I've tried all the sprays. They work for a while. I also bought the Frog tool protectors and they work but you don't have anyway to know when they stop working.

Hopefully my new shop won't be this damp.
