>Recently got something similar from Grizzly. It works pretty well. It is much bigger than I expected. It is probably 3 1/2 ft off the wall. It does a nice job of holding the hood it the right position.

>I've got something similar and it works reasonably well if you are very close to the lathe. Just remember that bends in the pipe will disturb the air flow - more turns and bends = less collection efficiency.

>I use one mounted to the ceiling with the hose coming up from the floor; that is the hose does not bend as the mechanism bends but bends gently from below. It works very well for me.

>I bought mine a year or so ago and really like it. I don't have my hose attatched to it though. I'm sure that would restict easy movement of the arm? It's a great deal for 25% off. I think that's when I bought mine last year.

>If you don't want to spend so much you can make your own with a $8.00 vent from Home Depot and plywood and some rare earth magnets to hold it to your lathe. Rube Goldberg lives on :)
Re: Normal conversion is 1' of hose = 3' pipe
Al Crandall
>Because it uses all flex hose, that item has the same drag on the efficiency of the collector as 30' of straight pipe, and 30' of 4" pipe usually is considered a tough pull for a small collector. I'd try to replace as much of the flex hose as I could with rigid pipe.

>I don't know the price of the unit you are looking at but I use a 4x10x4 HVAC floor boot suspended from the ceiling.
The boot is less than $3.00.
I have used the stiffer flex hose that I normally use with my D.C. but I like good old dryer hose for this application.
It moves enough air to capture fine dust and CA fumes.
