Cherry Burl Bowl

Ron in Drums PA

>10" x 4.5"

Waterlox finish

Alcohol dried

I saved this log from a fire wood pile.

When my wife first looked at this she said "But it has a hole in it!" THe next day she tells me " I think this is my favorite one."

As always, your critiques are welcomed. Thanks for looking.

>Hi Ron,

Nice bowl! Great save from the firewood. Would have been a shame to burn that one.

The bowl has a very pleasing shape to it.

Thanks for the pic,

Mike

Hoping for shop time this afternoon in Apex, NC...

>That is a very beautiful piece of wood. You really made a save. Its a nice simple shape that really works.

How long did you soak it in alcohol and how long did it dry before you turned it. I am trying that process and need all the info I can get. I have never used waterlox, do you use it on everything?

>I let it soak for just 2 hours, then wrap in newspaper for 4 days. After that, 10 days sitting on my work bench.

>Hi Ron,

Very nice bowl....and you saved a log in making it! The tree Gods are smiling down on you :)

It looks like a hearty bowl. I love the smooth rim and the the "hole" in it adds a rustic touch. The finish looks fantastic too. Water-Lox. I've never used that? I might have to try it!

Thanks for posting!

How much information do you need?

Dave Smith, Longview, WA

>Hi Jim,

I assume you read the write up in the Articles section here on WC. If you have specific questions post them or email me. I don't have enough hours in the day to write up everything and crunch all the data I have gathered. "I'll get tit after the holidays," has been used so much that I am already behind before next year starts.

I burned out about a week too soon this year in Longview, WA.

Very nice shape...makes me want to pick it up and cradle it in both hands. Very pretty wood as well.
