110 volt lathes

>I am considering a new lathe (within a year). I don't really want to rewire my basement shop - I would rather save the money for later. Any recommendations on a 110 volt lathes? Or should I just wait and eventually purchase a 220 volt.

>I may be wrong but I think anything with 1 1/2 horse motor of smaller will probably be 110 unless it has an inverter. Most of the lathes under $1500 are probably 110.

>I do spindle turning (up 36") and bowl turning. I have a 3/4 hp Delta 46-715 (14" diameter to the ways and 40" between centers). I find that it is somewhat underpowered and sometimes has annoying vibrations. I currently have about 70 lbs of ballast. It is a reasonable lathe, but as I have been gaining in proficiency, I want to think about upgrading. 1 1/2 hp would be nice.

I love it, it is one great lathe.

no regrets buying it or recomending it to others.

Jets customer service is great as well.

>Have you given thought to the fact that a 1642 lathe whether Delta or Jet is only going to give you an additional 2" of swing and 6" between centers? Its not exactly a quantum leap up from your 46-715, and you will spend quite a bit of money to get it.

I have a Delta 1642 1 1/2hp and feel too restricted by the 16" swing and am thinking about upgrading to a Powermatic 3520.

As for wiring for a 220v circuit, thats all nickel and dime stuff, especially only running a dedicated circuit for a lathe.
