Feel like I'm being watched !!

Tom In Red Deer

>Morning all,

Here are a couple of pics of my latest effort. I roughed turned this piece a couple of weeks ago. It is spalted poplar, courtesy of our local beaver. It is 9" dia and about 9" tall. The foot is not done yet as I am letting this sit now to finish drying for a couple of months.

I thought it was already dry until a crack appeared in the lip. Once it has quit moving I will fill the crack with ground turqoise.

To me this thing looks like a giant eyeball and with it sitting on a shelf in the house I feel like I am being watched.

Any and all comments welcome. Turning this "big" stuff is very new to me...I usually do miniatures, 1" tall or so.

This shows the crack that is growing daily. Should look good when it is filled in Turqoise.

>Hi Tom,

That's cool! That really does look like an eye. Maybe a good piece for your local eye doctor?

Thanks for the pic,

Mike

>Hi Jamie,

No, the wall is only that thin at the top. This is one of my first pieces from wet wood. I was having so much fun turning it, I got carried away.

I have a few more blanks done but left them all over 1/2 in thick so they should be OK. They are in bags with their shavings to dry.

The crack first occurred while my wife and I were looking at the piece. We heard a crack and had a look...sure enough. It is OK though. This is a keeper and my wife likes it with the crack.
