>Hello all, have delighted in this website for a couple of months, what a resource! Could anyone forward contacts for the turning clubs in Frederick or Balto areas. Also suggestions re: wood sources would be appreciated- the poplar I have access to seems problemmatic. Thanks!

>Lou -
I used to live in your area, in Rockville. There was a hardwood supplier in Rockville at the time and so far as I know, they're still there. They were in one of those industrial parks east of Hungerford Drive. Can't remember the name, but they're in the yellow pages under "wood products" or something. They had a pretty nice selection of exotic and domestic woods.
There's a guy named Mike Vore who is active in a couple of local woodturning clubs. Mike lives in Columbia now, I think. He and I worked together in an earlier life. He's enthusiastic and helpful and I'm sure he could steer you to local clubs and individuals. If you track him down, tell him I said hi.
Good luck.

>The Capital Area Woodturners is a great club that meets the 2nd Saturday of every month. The Cheasapeake Woodturners meet in Annapolis. Mike Schwing is starting a new club in Timonium (north side of Baltimore) and there is a new club starting in Fredrick. I think the CAW is the closest and I highly recommend it. Great demos, members, and show-n-tells. It is a rather a large club but only about 100 members show up for any one meeting. Well worth the $20 membership fee.
