Cherry Box - Alcohol Dried

Ron in Drums PA

>3-3/4" High

2.5/8" Wide

Danish Oil under Waterlux

This box soaked in alcohol for 2 hours then wrapped in newspaper for two days. Than air dired for 6 more days. Turned to 1/8" at the top to 1/4" at the bottom. Lid is about 5/16" thick.

When finished I let this box sit for a week in my shop then for about 2 weeks upstairs. No noticable warping.

>Hi Ron,

That's really pretty. Is there a detail on the top that we can't really see from this picture? I love it!

Hi Ron

Dominic Greco in Richboro, PA

>Ron,

Very nice looking box! Love the shape. I bet it fits in your hand nicely.

I'm glad you posted this. I was wondering of the Alcohol soak technique would be as effective on end grain boxes. Seems like it is.

Is the inlay on the top more of that "synthetic granite" stuff you like?

Later,

Dominic

>Hey Dominic

I didn't use Cast-n-Craft this time but used Inlace.

I also used inlace on a cherry bowl. I had the box top ready just in case I mixed to much. I'll be posting that soon also.

Nice looking box.

Dave Smith, Longview, WA

>Hi Ron,

Looks like a winner to me. Is this the one that had a sap pocket in the lid which separated? Wonderful shape. I doubt there will be any warping of the box beyond any normal wood movement.

Dave Smith

Hoping to get to the lathe today in Longview, WA.
