I am getting the lathe set up and now I need some wood!

Why don't you raid Sean Troy's wood pile?

Dave Smith, Longview, WA

>Hi Carol,

What kind of wood are you looking for? I assume you want green wood for turning bowls. I have too much wood according to Sandy but I don't suppose you will be driving by my shop on the way to Phoenix. Sean gave me some African sumac last March that was nice to turn and has a wonderful pink color. See if you can find some of it I know you will be happy with it.

Good luck. I am glad to hear you are getting out of your office and doing a little woodworking.

>Carol,

Check out the Woodworker's Source. They have a fantastic supply of all sorts of wood. That time 2 years ago I was out there and met you for lunch, they were having a woodturners special weekend, and had pallet upon pallet of incredible Austrailian Burls cheap.

They are on the access road on the east side of the Black Canyon Freeway, just above Bell Rd, if memory servers. Last time I was there in March, they were building a new building, but it was right close by.

Sorry about that post Sean.

Dave Smith, Longview, WA

>Hi Sean,

So how long were we friends before I started giving away all your wood? I shouldn't have implied you had a lot of wood to give away. I started to feel bad until I saw you posted your phone number right on the forum in front of God and everybody. Or was it your wife who made that post?

We don't plan to make it down this winter since we will be going to Hawaii for a couple weeks in January. If things work out I am going to do a day trip from Maui to the Big Island and attend a turning club meeting near Hilo. That should be a blast. Imagine going to a place where bigleaf maple is an exotic wood.

firewood

Ben

>Carol,

I have bought some wood at my local firewood lots. I try to find out when they are getting a shipment of wood in and buy it before they split it up. Sometimes the wood is quite green and not cracked yet other times it is what it is, firewood. My last batch I bought was some nice mesquite that was still green and little cracking. I process the wood right away with the chainsaw, bandsaw, and sealer. The best part is the wood sells for firewood prices. Does anyone is get wood this way?

>Carol,

Try Rockler Woodworking on the NW corner of Thunderbird and Tatum. Woodworkers Source on south 40th St. has a lot of turning stock. You might try some fire-wood dealers. There is one on 19th Ave. between Dunlap and Peoria. Also there is a big fire-wood lot on East Washington about 50th St. Good luck.

>Hi Dave, I welcome anyone who is in town to contact me and get together. Lucky you going to Koa country. One of these days i'll make it up to your neck of the woods and get some of that maple burl. Be safe, Sean
